George is quoted saying "The funny thing was, I won the Oscar for 'Syriana' while we were shooting 'Michael Clayton,' and I had to fly back to L.A. for the ceremony doing the whole thing in one night. I won it and came back and I hid it in my bag and I put it up on top of the camera and while Tony [Gilroy] was talking I was like 'can you get out of my eye-line?' "

People magazine Nov. 26 2007 Added the text.
Tony Gilroy on George & Michael Clayton Tony tells Variety "We've wiped [away] every molecule of sentiment [from the movie]. So much of what's behind Michael Clayton is squandered opportunity. The idea that someone with those kinds of looks and that kind of charm were of no use to this character anymore. And the tension of George playing that -- he was almost ahead of me in that regard. He knew that that was the prize, to dismantle and show all the rust on the persona that he spent so much time building up all these years."
Michael Clayton FYC ad Added another 'For Your Consideration' ad for Michael Clayton. It's another for picture/director/screenplay, but I really like the photography on this one.

November 19 2007
George Clooney scolds paparazzi A video on a well-known celebrity gossip site today shows an angry George Clooney (who was on his bike in L.A. with Sarah Larson) scolding paparazzi for risking lives just to take footage of him. Since this is an important issue that is evolving into a top Clooney headline, I have chosen to relay details - without the offending video link. George can be heard saying:
"You broke some laws, I want to find out what your license plate number is. How many laws did you break? How many people did you put in danger? You drove like a maniac down there. At least understand that you're putting people in danger. I've been down on a motorcycle and the last thing I want to do is get thumped."

George Clooney on Renee Zellweger Harper's Bazaar, Dec. 2007:

Her old friend Mr. Clooney wrote the part [Leatherheads] for her. "Most actors and actresses tend to be fairly contemporary: The minute you put them in a period piece, they stand out," says Clooney. "Renée has great old-fashioned movie-star qualities. There are times in the film when she looks a lot like a young Ginger Rogers." One could say Renée's ability to dissolve into a role puts her in a league with artist Cindy Sherman as a mistress of disguise. "She's amazing at that," Clooney agrees, describing how she would become Rosalind Russell, Barbara Stanwyck, and Jean Arthur before his eyes. For her 38th birthday last April, Clooney gave Renée 100 movies he'd picked from 1964 to 1976. "He's a connoisseur," she says.

Nick Clooney Buffalo News has a report on Nick Clooney hosting last night's "Golden Age of Film" for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Excerpt:
Clooney had the crowd laughing as he poked fun at himself. “We all know I have only one distinction,” he said. “I’m the only one in the house who knows what his obit will read: Nick Clooney, brother of fantastic singing icon Rosemary Clooney, father of Oscar-winning writer-director-actor-producer George Clooney, died today. Period.”

George Clooney on Matt Damon (more from People magazine) "There's a lot of responsibility with this. I believe in the event that he can't serve, the former sexiest man can take over. So if he slips up, I'm ready to take back the crown. When we were lobbying for him earlier, I don't think he was ready for it. It takes some maturity. Now I think he can handle the pressure."

The Fantastic Mr. Fox An update on The Fantastic Mr. Fox from the Times:
After nearly a decade of planning, the American director [Wes Anderson] has started work in London on an animated version of Fantastic Mr Fox. “It was one of my favourite books as a child,” Anderson told The Times. “I have been trying to make this film for eight years.” New characters and plotlines, including something resembling a raid scene, have been introduced to make the story into a feature-length film. “There’s a whole new bit at the start and a new section at the end, but we’ve tried to do something that Roald Dahl would love,” Anderson, who is writing the script with Noah Baumbach, said.
John Krasinski on George Clooney Men's Health, December 2007:
"I told my friends that I challenged George - what a great way to break the ice with my director, right? They said, 'Dude, that guy plays two-on-two twice a day! He has his own court at Warner Brothers!' He just gave me that People's Sexiest Man Alive smile - it stuns you for a second - and that's all he needed. He beat me. I won't say by how much. I'd love a rematch now that my head's in the right space. He has found that perfect dichotomy between working hard and being happy."

Something clicked between my pictures of him and our relationship. I don't ask him to do too much, so he ends up doing a whole bunch. Throughout his life, he's just been the goofball with movie star looks."

I contacted Victoria's management, to see if they could shed any light on what this referred to. JJ Murray-Leach kindly replied:

"Like many of Victoria's stories there's always only an element of truth. She said she might be out in NY visiting her parents and could be a chance of singing at a concert where George be in the audience. But she said it was only a possibility and if it happened it would be nice to sing again for him." However, JJ added, "Victoria isn't doing the concert now."

Later, I'm in a hotel room watching Bill O'Reilly. He's saying, 'You know how these liberals are - they get together and plan.' Isn't that hysterical? I was like, 'Yeah, well.... you got us.'"

Darfur Now Don Cheadle & George Clooney couldn't attend the L.A. premiere, but director Ted Braun speaks to the Press Association: "Getting George Clooney involved was a very happy accident... he called up Don Cheadle one day and said 'I'm going to China and Egypt to discuss this issue with the leadership there, would you like to join me?' "We're very fortunate as he's a deeply committed person on Darfur - and that sincerity and knowledge comes shining through on this picture."

White Jazz Joe Carnahan writes of a recent meeting: "spoke with this individual for about an hour and half about all things 'White Jazz' and he wants to do the film." He doesn't say who the meeting was with, but presumably it's the actor he was chasing for the role George dropped out of. IESB also interviews Joe. I'm currently trying to obtain confirmation that George Clooney is still producing.
Ross King radio update (UK) (See Oct. 30 entry) I received a reply today from Ross King, saying: "Sadly we had to postpone George's interview. However hopefully we'll get him again soon. I'm sure he'll be on our "best of" compilation around Christmas."

I think he's compiled some footage of something, but I'm not going to say." On Leatherheads, she says, "He was a champ. He must have been so exhausted. He played football with the boys all day while he was directing and then he'd edit as soon as we'd wrap, and then he'd write scenes for the next day. Then he put his pads back on and played football. It was a very impressive feat."

Clooney Taped Confronting Photographers

A videotape of George Clooney angrily confronting two photographers for driving dangerously has surfaced online. The Michael Clayton star was riding his motorcycle, with girlfriend Sarah Larson, along Los Angeles' Mulholland Drive when he pulled over to tell off the overly-aggressive paparazzi. Clooney and Larson were injured when they were knocked off a Harley Davison motorcycle the actor had rented during a September trip to New Jersey, and the actor was worried another accident would occur if he didn't object to the photographers' irresponsible driving. In a video of the incident, obtained by website Tmz.com, an angry Clooney says, "You broke some laws, I want to find out what your license plate number is. How many laws did you break, pal?... You cut me up... How many people did you put in danger? You drove like a maniac down here. At least understand that you're putting people in danger... I've been down on a motorcycle and the last thing I want to do is get thumped." The two photographers involved then apologized to Clooney, before the actor drove off. Clooney and Larson received hospital treatment after their September crash - he was treated for a rib fracture and grazes, while Larson saw doctors for two broken toes.
